Who Can Take Lariam?

Lariam is a medicine for preventing malaria and is usually offered to people who are planning a trip to a region where malaria is common. This may include South America, Sub-Saharan Africa, or South Asia.

Who Should Not Take Lariam?

Lariam is not for use by any patient with a history of serious psychiatric illness such as schizophrenia, or anybody with a history of seizures. This medicine is also not usually offered to women who are pregnant or breast-feeding, although a doctor may decide that the benefits outweigh the potential risks of taking the medicine.

Finally, this medicine should not be taken by anybody who may be allergic to any of its ingredients or the active ingredient mefloquine.
